Thanks for visiting the New England Innkeeper.
My name is Charlene Taubert – and my life has been one dedicated to the hospitality profession/passion at all levels.
I started at the bottom, when I was young, a first job serving breakfast at a small diner in a central Massachusetts town. As I gained experience, the jobs got better, and my aspirations got bigger. I eventually paid my way through an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Business Administration by working nights and off-hours at multiple fine dining restaurants and superior lodging properties up and down the East Coast of the United States.
Along the way I’ve done it all: professional wait staff, front desk, hostess, banquet coordinator, sales and marketing, supervisory roles – and I’ve dabbled in an eclectic variety of hospitality environments from historic inns in Massachusetts, to Italian restaurants down in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, world class resorts in Florida, high-end steakhouses on subtropical barrier islands, high volume Hawaiian Fusion restaurants run by celebrity chefs, overseeing luxury weddings by the ocean – and even a brief stint working at a major Key West hotel.
Somewhere along the line – after being recognized multiple times professionally for my contributions to sales, training and customer service – I began to realize two things:
- That I have a definite knack for this hospitality thing, and
- That I really wanted to be a New England Innkeeper
So I followed my calling back up North to my native New England, and now I’m the innkeeper and property manager for a well-respected 16-room BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection and Select Registry inn located on the picturesque southern coast of Maine.
In addition to the multitude of professional responsibilities that come with running a successful Bed & Breakfast, I’m also the pastry chef for the inn – and that’s one of my favorite jobs.
I go to work each morning with a drive to be creative in some way, each and every day. Sometimes setting trends and always setting the standard, I find true joy in sharing this passion of mine with my guests, family and friends.
And now I want to share it with all of you, too. Whether it’s bed and breakfast recipes, hospitality tips and tricks, anecdotes on the business end of Innkeeping, showcasing the work and properties of other New England Innkeepers, or sharing thoughts on creativity (painting is my other passion), travel (traveling is my other passion, too), favorite quotes, amazing images, and all of the little stuff that brings smiles to faces and helps make the world a better place – I’m hoping you enjoy what you find here. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
In the end, what’s most meaningful is creating positive, uplifting outcomes for human experiences and human relationships. Business, like life, is all about how you make people feel. It’s that simple, and it’s that hard.
